Cyclohexanone is a key raw material for the production of caprolactam and adipic acid, as well as an essential intermediate for nylon manufacturing. It is widely used as a solvent and diluent for paints, inks, synthetic resins, and synthetic rubbers, and also serves as a leather degreasing agent.
It functions as a general organic solvent and is a raw material and solvent for synthetic resins and fibers. Cyclohexanone is particularly effective for paints containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers, or methacrylate polymers. It is also an excellent solvent for pesticides, including organophosphate insecticides, dyes, aviation piston lubricants, greases, waxes, and rubbers. Additionally, it is used as a leveling agent in dyeing silk, for metal degreasing, wood coloring, cyclohexanone stripping, decontamination, and spot removal.
Cyclohexanone reacts with cyanoacetic acid in a condensation reaction to produce cyclohexylidene acetic acid, which can then be converted to cyclohexene acetonitrile through decarboxylation and finally hydrogenated to cyclohexene ethylamine, an intermediate for various pharmaceuticals.
It also acts as a solvent for fibers, resins, rubbers, paraffins, shellac, and DDT, and is used in organic synthesis. Cyclohexanone can dissolve many complexes formed by inorganic and organic reagents, assist in bismuth determination, and aid in the extraction of rare metals such as uranium, thorium, cobalt, and titanium.

Product Usage
Paint Industry: Cyclohexanone serves as a high-boiling-point solvent in paints. It helps dissolve resins, pigments, and other components, evaporating gradually during the drying process to create a smooth, even surface and enhance paint gloss and fullness. It also improves paint flow and leveling while reducing coating defects.
Ink Industry: Used as a solvent and diluent in inks, it facilitates ink transfer and drying during printing, enhances printing performance and adhesion, and is suitable for various printing methods, including gravure and screen printing.
Chemical Synthesis: Cyclohexanone is a raw material for synthesizing polymers such as polyester resins and polyurethanes. In polyester production, it reacts with diols and similar compounds to form polyesters with specific properties, which are then used in fibers, plastic films, and other products.
Cleaning Industry: With its strong dissolving power, cyclohexanone is effective for cleaning metal surfaces, electronic components, and other materials, efficiently removing oils, greases, and other organic contaminants.
