Sodium Chloride CAS#7647-14-5
Widespread natural availability
Essential for food flavoring
Key sodium nutrient source
Abundant in oceans and deposits
Product Description of Sodium chloride (CAS#7647-14-5)
Sodium chloride is naturally abundant and widely distributed across the Earth. The oceans serve as its primary source, with seawater containing an average concentration of 2.68% by weight (wt%). Additionally, it is found in inland saline waters and sedimentary rock deposits, where it crystallizes as the mineral halite.
As the most significant salt of both sodium and chlorine, sodium chloride—commonly known as table salt—plays a vital role in food preparation. It enhances flavor and fulfills the essential sodium nutritional requirement in diets.

Product Application of Sodium chloride (CAS#7647-14-5)
Sodium chloride, widely recognized as table salt, naturally occurs as the mineral halite and is also present in brines and seawater. It exhibits high solubility in water but limited solubility in alcohol. Historically, sodium chloride holds significance as the first halide to be combined with silver nitrate. Additionally, it served as a stabilizer in early photographic processes, utilized by pioneers such as L. J. M. Daguerre and W. H. F. Talbot, before the adoption of hypo (sodium thiosulfate) for fixing images.
