Product Description of Procaine Hydrochloride CAS#51-05-8
Procaine hydrochloride is a local anesthetic that temporarily blocks nerve fiber conduction, producing a reliable anesthetic effect. It is characterized by strong efficacy, low toxicity, and non-addictive properties. Due to its limited penetration through skin and mucous membranes, it is generally not suitable for surface anesthesia. Clinically, it is mainly used for infiltration anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, and conduction anesthesia.
The aqueous solution of this product remains relatively stable within a pH range of 3.0 to 5.0. Therefore, when preparing procaine hydrochloride injection solutions, acid is typically added to adjust the pH to 3.3–5.5, while the sterilization temperature and duration must be strictly controlled. A recommended sterilization condition is 100°C circulating steam for 30 minutes, with attention given to light protection and airtight storage.
In its chemical structure, the aromatic amino group can react with sodium nitrite in dilute hydrochloric acid to form a diazonium salt, which further undergoes a coupling reaction with alkaline β-naphthol to produce a scarlet azo compound.
