Product Details

Product Description of Neodymium Oxide CAS#1313-97-9

Neodymium oxide (Nd₂O₃) is a blue-grey powder composed of the rare earth element neodymium and oxygen. It has a hexagonal crystal structure, is hygroscopic, absorbs atmospheric CO₂, and exhibits slight red fluorescence. Insoluble in water but soluble in acids, it possesses unique properties that make it highly valuable in the glass and ceramics industries. At 1–2% concentration, it produces a vivid aqua color in most glaze bases, while 4–7% yields a pleasant lavender or grape hue that varies under different artificial lighting. The color performance is strongly influenced by iron content; minimal iron impurities are required to achieve the brightest blue and lavender shades, while oxidized iron produces a neutral, transparent gray.
