Product Details

Sorbitol CAS#50-70-4

Sorbitol (CAS#50-70-4) is a hexahydric alcohol naturally found in rose hips and rowan berries and industrially produced by the reduction of glucose. It is an important raw material for the manufacture of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and various surfactants. Sorbitol is widely used in pharmaceuticals and as a low-calorie sweetener, especially in foods formulated for diabetics. It is an isomer of mannitol and offers good stability and versatility in both food and chemical applications.

Product Application of Sorbitol CAS#50-70-4

Sorbitol is a water-soluble polyol produced by hydrogenating glucose. With about 60% of the sweetness of sugar and a lower caloric value (2.6 kcal/g), it is widely used as a humectant and sweetener in food and pharmaceutical applications. Sorbitol helps retain moisture in candies, pet foods, and shredded coconut, and improves texture and body in sugar-free frozen desserts and low-calorie beverages. It is commonly applied in sugarless confectionery, chewing gum, ice cream, and as a crystallization modifier in soft sugar-based products.
