Product Description of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (CAS#9003-39-8)
Polyvinylpyrrolidone is a cross-linked homopolymer derived from pure vinylpyrrolidone. It appears as a hygroscopic, free-flowing white or off-white powder with a slight odor. The product is insoluble in common solvents such as water, ethanol, and ether, making its molecular weight range difficult to determine.
Despite its insolubility, PVP exhibits strong complexation ability with various substances, including compounds responsible for discoloration in wines and beverages. Additionally, it can be easily removed by filtration, which enhances its practicality in processing applications.

Product Application of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (CAS#9003-39-8)
Polyvinylpyrrolidone is widely used as an adhesive in glue sticks, as well as an emulsifier and disintegrant in solution polymerization processes. It also serves as an additive in Doro’s RNA extraction buffer, a dispersion-enhancing agent in diffusion-ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) NMR, and a thickening agent in tooth whitening gels.
In addition, it is commonly applied in personal care products such as shampoos and toothpastes, in inkjet printing inks, and in contact lens solutions. It is also utilized as a food additive and as a fining agent in the wine industry, particularly for white wine clarification. Furthermore, it functions as a capping agent in the synthesis of silver nanowires via the polyol process.
