Polymaleic Acid CAS#26099-09-2
Excellent Scale Inhibition|: Polymaleic acid effectively prevents scale formation, even at high temperatures and in highly alkaline water systems.
High Temperature Resistance: It maintains stability and performance under elevated temperatures, making it suitable for industrial water treatment.
Corrosion Inhibition: When combined with zinc salts, it acts as an effective corrosion inhibitor for metals.
Versatile Applications: It can be used in water desalination, cooling water systems, concrete additives, and crude oil evaporation processes.
Polymaleic Acid CAS#26099-09-2
Polymaleic acid is the homopolymer of maleic acid, exhibiting excellent stability in the presence of chlorine and other oxidizing biocides. It offers effective scale inhibition and high-temperature resistance, making it suitable for use in water desalination plants. It is a highly effective calcium carbonate antiscalant under high-temperature and highly alkaline cooling water conditions. Additionally, when combined with zinc salts, it functions as a corrosion inhibitor. Polymaleic acid can also be applied as a concrete additive and in crude oil evaporation processes. It is produced through the polymerization of maleic anhydride in an aromatic hydrocarbon at temperatures ranging from 60°C to 200°C.

Product Usage of Polymaleic Acid (PMA)
Oil Industry – Acidizing Treatment of Oil Wells
PMA can be used in the acidizing treatment of oil wells during extraction. It dissolves minerals such as carbonates in the surrounding rock, increases the permeability of the oil-bearing layer, and thereby improves oil recovery. At the same time, it helps protect oil well equipment from corrosion caused by acids.
Papermaking Industry – Paper Strengthener and Retention Agent
PMA can form chemical bonds or physical adsorption with paper fibers, enhancing paper strength. It also helps retain high-quality fibers and fillers during paper formation, improving paper quality and material utilization. For example, it can be added in the production of high-strength packaging paper and cultural paper.
Textile Industry – Printing and Dyeing Auxiliaries
PMA can serve as a printing and dyeing auxiliary in textile processes. It improves dye dispersion, ensures uniform dyeing, and enhances overall dyeing quality. Additionally, it prevents dye agglomeration and precipitation on fabric surfaces, reducing defects such as color spots.
Other Fields – Polymerizable Monomer or Modifier
The double bond structure of PMA allows it to act as a polymerizable monomer in the synthesis of other polymers or to modify existing polymers. This can impart new properties, such as enhanced hydrophilicity and improved anti-fouling characteristics.
