Product Details

Product Description of Aluminum Hydroxide (CAS No. 21645-51-2)

Aluminum hydroxide, with the chemical formula Al(OH)₃, is a white solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in both acids and alkalis, exhibiting typical amphoteric behavior. When heated and dehydrated in air, it can be converted into aluminum oxide, making it an important precursor for alumina production. It reacts with acids to form salts and water, and with strong bases to produce corresponding salts and water, further demonstrating its amphoteric nature. Due to its slight acidity, it is also sometimes referred to as aluminic acid (H₃AlO₃).

Product Applications of Aluminum Hydroxide (CAS No. 21645-51-2)

Aluminum hydroxide is widely used as an absorbent and in chromatography, as well as in the manufacture of glass, paper, inks, ceramics, lubricants, and cosmetics. It functions as a desiccant and as a filler in materials such as paper, plastics, rubber, and cosmetic formulations.

It is also applied as a smoke suppressant and a mordant in dyeing processes. In the pharmaceutical field, it is used in capsule formulations as an antacid and antihyperphosphatemic agent. Additionally, it serves as a catalyst support in the Claus process for water-resistant fabrics.

Aluminum hydroxide is an important raw material for producing various aluminum compounds, including calcined alumina, aluminum sulfate, polyaluminum chloride, zeolites, sodium aluminate, activated alumina, and aluminum nitrate. Furthermore, it is widely used as a flame retardant.
