Calcium Stearate CAS# 1592-23-0
Calcium stearate, also referred to as calcium octadecanoate, is a light white crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is (C17H35COO)2Ca and its molecular weight is 607.00.
It has a melting point ranging from 179°C to 180°C and decomposes when exposed to heat. Insoluble in water, cold ethanol and diethyl ether, it is soluble in hot benzene, toluene and turpentine, and slightly soluble in hot ethanol and diethyl ether.
Calcium stearate reacts with strong acids to decompose into stearic acid and the corresponding calcium salt. It is hygroscopic when exposed to air and resistant to lipolytic microorganisms.
