Product Usage
2,3,3,4-Biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (a-BPDA) and polyamides (PAA) derived from p-phenylenediamine (PDA) or 4,4'-oxydiphenylamine (ODA) can undergo thermal imidization to produce asymmetric biphenyl-type polyimides (PI). Compared to the semi-rigid s-BPDA/PDA, a-BPDA/PDA polyimides feature a notably bent chain structure. Nonetheless, a-BPDA/PDA films annealed at 350 °C exhibit higher glass transition temperatures (Tg) than s-BPDA/PDA films prepared under similar conditions. The elevated Tg values of a-BPDA-based PIs are likely due to the cranked axial motion that restricts conformational changes. Additionally, the diimide synthesized from a-BPDA and cyclohexylamine demonstrates long-lived luminescence, lasting up to 1.3 seconds following UV irradiation.
