Product Description of Magnesium sulfate anhydrous (CAS# 7487-88-9)
Magnesium sulfate anhydrous, also known as bitter sulfur, bitter salt, or Epsom salt, is a magnesium-based compound. It occurs as colorless or white weather-resistant crystals or a white powder, with no odor and a bitter-salty taste. The substance is deliquescent.
When heated, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate loses six molecules of crystal water at 150°C and becomes fully anhydrous at 200°C. The anhydrous form has a density of 2.66, a melting point of 1124°C, and decomposes at this temperature.
It is highly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol, ether, and glycerin, but insoluble in acetone.
