Doxycycline hydrochloride is a light blue to yellow crystalline powder that is odorless, bitter, and hygroscopic. It is readily soluble in water and methanol, and slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone. This product features a broad antibacterial spectrum, showing effectiveness against both Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative bacilli. Its antibacterial potency is approximately 10 times stronger than tetracycline, while still maintaining activity against tetracycline-resistant bacteria. It is mainly used for respiratory tract infections, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections, and can also be applied in the treatment of macules, typhoid fever, and mycoplasma pneumonia.

The antibacterial spectrum of this product is generally similar to that of tetracycline and oxytetracycline, while its antibacterial activity both in vivo and in vitro is stronger than tetracycline. Microorganisms show close cross-resistance between this product and tetracycline, oxytetracycline, and related compounds. It is well absorbed after oral administration.
It is mainly used for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, tonsillitis, biliary tract infections, lymphadenitis, cellulitis, and chronic bronchitis in elderly patients caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In addition, it is also used for typhus, parasitic diseases, mycoplasma pneumonia, cholera, and for the prevention of malignant malaria and leptospira infection.
