Streptomycin sulfate CAS#3810-74-0

  • Proven Anti-Tuberculosis Efficacy – Streptomycin sulfate is the first chemotherapy antibiotic with a confirmed therapeutic effect against tuberculosis, offering reliable clinical value.

  • Powerful Bactericidal Action – It acts directly on bacterial ribosomes to inhibit protein synthesis, resulting in strong bactericidal activity.

  • High Effectiveness with Low Toxicity – Recognized as one of the most effective and least toxic antibiotics derived from Streptomyces for extra-gastrointestinal use.

  • Targeted Activity Against Extracellular TB Bacteria – Particularly effective against extracellular and cavitary tuberculosis bacteria, making it highly suitable for tuberculosis treatment applications.

Products Description of Streptomycin Sulfate CAS#3810-74-0

Streptomycin sulfate is the sulfate salt form of streptomycin, an antibiotic produced by the soil actinomycete Streptomyces griseus. Streptomycin was the first chemotherapeutic drug proven to have a definite effect against tuberculosis. This product is administered by intramuscular injection, which may limit its long-term use.

It is considered one of the most effective and least toxic antibiotics derived from Streptomyces for extra-gastrointestinal applications. As a bactericidal agent, it exerts its effect by acting directly on bacterial ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis. It mainly targets extracellular tuberculosis bacteria, including cavitary forms.

Product Application of Streptomycin Sulfate CAS#3810-74-0

Streptomycin sulfate exhibits antibacterial activity against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with particularly strong effects on a variety of Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Brucella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysenteriae, Clostridium difficile, and Burkholderia thuringiensis.

This product is considered a first-line choice for anti-tuberculosis treatment due to its strong activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It shows significant antibacterial effects at low concentrations and bactericidal effects at higher concentrations. Since only about 10% can penetrate body cells, it is ineffective against intracellular tuberculosis bacteria and mainly acts by eliminating extracellular tuberculosis bacteria. Its bactericidal activity is stronger against bacteria in the reproductive phase than those in the resting phase. Unlike penicillin, its bactericidal rate is directly proportional to the drug concentration. The antibacterial effect is strongest at pH 7.8, while the activity is greatly reduced when the pH falls below 6.
