Products Description of N,N-Dimethylformamide CAS#68-12-2
N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic fishy odor. It has a molecular weight of 73.11, a boiling point of 153°C, a freezing point of -61°C, a flash point of 58°C, and a vapor pressure of 3 mmHg at 20°C. DMF is soluble in both water and a wide range of organic solvents. It presents hazards including flammability (explosive limits: LEL 2.2%, UEL 15.2%), toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and potential for skin irritation. It is extensively used as a solvent in the production of acrylic fibers, pharmaceuticals, dyes, petroleum products, and other organic chemicals, and also finds applications as a gasoline additive and in electronic manufacturing.

Product Application of N,N-Dimethylformamide CAS#68-12-2
N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is primarily used as a solvent and extractant, especially for salts and high-molecular-weight compounds. Its versatility stems from a unique combination of physical and chemical properties, including low molecular mass, high dielectric constant, electron-donor capability, and complex-forming ability. Although its role as a reagent in chemical synthesis is less commercially significant, anhydrous DMF has been employed as a solvent in the preparation of cytotoxic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) conjugate AN-152 (a chemotherapeutic agent) and the fluorophore C625 [4-(N,N-diphenylamino)-4′-(6-O-hemiglutarate)hexylsulfinyl stilbene]. It also serves as a solvent medium in various organic reduction reactions.
