Magnesium Fluoride CAS#7783-40-6
Magnesium Fluoride is a fine white crystalline powder, typically obtained as a by-product in the production of metallic beryllium and uranium. It is chemically stable with low reactivity.
This compound is widely used as a flux in magnesium metallurgy and in the ceramics industry. It is also applied in the extraction of aluminum from arc-furnace alloys containing Fe, Si, Ti, and C. Highly purified magnesium fluoride is ideal for optical windows that transmit light from the vacuum ultraviolet (140 nm) to the infrared (7 μm), making it suitable for ultraviolet optical components in space exploration. Additionally, it serves as an effective antireflection coating material, offering a low refractive index and excellent optical performance.
