Polyurethane CAS# 9009-54-5

  • Outstanding mechanical strength: Polyurethanes offer excellent toughness and abrasion resistance, making them highly durable for long-term and heavy-duty applications.

  • Superior oil and aging resistance: The highly polar urethane groups provide strong resistance to oils and aging, ensuring stable performance over time.

  • Excellent adhesion performance: Polyurethanes bond well to many substrates, making them ideal for coatings, adhesives, and composite materials.

  • Wide formulation flexibility: By using different aromatic and aliphatic isocyanates, polyurethanes can be tailored for foams, coatings, and elastomers with varying rigidity and reactivity.

Product Details

Polyurethanes (PUs) are a class of polymers whose main chain contains repeating -NHCOO- structural units. They are polymerized from isocyanates (monomers) and hydroxyl compounds. Due to the presence of highly polar urethane groups, they are insoluble in non-polar groups and possess excellent oil resistance, toughness, abrasion resistance, aging resistance, and adhesion.

Various isocyanates (such as toluene diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate, and dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate) are used in the preparation of polyurethanes. Aromatic isocyanates are more reactive than aliphatic isocyanates and are widely used in polyurethane foams, coatings, and elastomers. The cyclic structure of aromatic and alicyclic isocyanates imparts rigidity to polyurethane molecules.

Polyurethane Product Applications CAS#9009-54-5

Polyurethane resin and foam are two important industrial polymers. They can be made into rigid, semi-rigid, or elastic foams or resins, giving polyurethane (PUR) a wide variety of commercial applications. Polyurethane is widely used for thermal insulation and cold storage in storage tanks, pipelines, cold storage facilities, beer and fermentation tanks, and food storage containers. It can be used to manufacture plastic products, abrasion-resistant synthetic rubber products, synthetic fibers, rigid and flexible foam plastic products, adhesives, and coatings; in aerospace, railway, construction, and sports; for surface coating of wooden furniture and metals; for thermal insulation and waterproofing of buildings; and also for prefabricated polyurethane panels. It is used for surface coating of various wood products, chemical equipment, telecommunications equipment and instruments, and various transportation vehicles. It is also used in bedding, automotive sealing materials, adhesives, carpets, packaging materials, and coatings, among many other products. Due to its oil resistance, light resistance, solvent resistance, strength, and flexibility, polyurethane is highly favored in industry. These polymers are formed by the addition polymerization reaction of polyol compounds such as diisocyanates and polyols.
