Epichlorohydrin CAS#106-89-8
Highly Reactive & Versatile Intermediate
Epichlorohydrin is a highly reactive organochlorine epoxide widely used as a key intermediate in the production of glycerol, epoxy resins, plastics, elastomers, and specialty chemicals.Broad Industrial Applications
It serves as an effective industrial solvent and is commonly applied in the manufacture of epoxy adhesives, coatings, cellulose solvents, resins, and paint formulations.Advanced Chemical & Biochemical Uses
Epichlorohydrin is utilized in the synthesis of glycidyl nitrate, alkali chlorides, and as a crosslinking agent in biochemical processes, including the production of Sephadex size-exclusion chromatography resins.Established Production Technology
Manufactured through the controlled reaction of allyl chloride with hypochlorous acid and alcohols, epichlorohydrin offers reliable quality for large-scale industrial processing, with strict safety measures required due to its hazardous nature.
Product Description of Epichlorohydrin (CAS No. 106-89-8)
Epichlorohydrin is a key chemical intermediate used in the production of glycerol and as a primary raw material for epoxy resins, fiberglass, electrical insulation materials, and nitroglycerin explosives. It is also widely applied in the manufacture of surfactants, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, coatings, adhesives, ion-exchange resins, plasticizers, and various glycidyl and glycerol derivatives.
Epoxy resins based on epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A offer excellent adhesion, low shrinkage, strong chemical resistance, and high stability, making them ideal for coatings, adhesives, reinforcement, and casting applications. In addition, chlorohydrin rubber produced from epichlorohydrin provides good oil resistance, solvent stability, and enhanced flexibility at low temperatures, outperforming many conventional rubbers in specialized uses.
