Sodium tripolyphosphate CAS#7758-29-4
Excellent Chelating Ability – Effectively binds Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions, preventing scale formation and significantly improving detergent cleaning performance.
Highly Efficient Detergent Builder – Widely used as a core builder in detergents, accounting for about 50% of global consumption and enhancing overall washing efficiency.
Versatile Food-Grade Additive – Functions as an approved food preservative (E451), helping retain moisture and improve texture in seafood and meat products.
Stable Multiple Crystalline Forms – Available in Phase I, Phase II, and hexahydrate forms, with Phase II offering superior industrial stability for consistent processing and storage.
Product Description of Sodium Tripolyphosphate (CAS No. 7758-29-4)
Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP, Na₅P₃O₁₀) is a white, crystalline phosphate widely applied in detergent formulations as an effective builder, representing nearly half of the global market usage. It also serves as an efficient water-softening agent and an approved food additive (E451).
With strong chelating properties toward metal ions such as calcium and magnesium, STPP improves washing performance by inhibiting scale formation. In food processing, it helps maintain moisture and enhance the texture of seafood and meat products.
STPP is available in three crystalline forms—Phase I, Phase II, and hexahydrate—with Phase II recognized as the most stable and preferred form for industrial applications.

Product Application of Sodium Tripolyphosphate (CAS No. 7758-29-4)
Sodium Tripolyphosphate is widely applied in water softening, heavy-duty laundry detergents, automatic dishwashing formulations, drilling fluid cleaning, and liquid livestock feed supplements. It functions effectively as a peptizing, emulsifying, and dispersing agent, and also serves as a stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide solutions.
In the food industry, it is used as a preservative for seafood, meat, poultry, and animal feed, helping to improve freshness and moisture retention. It is also employed as a polyanion cross-linking agent in polysaccharide-based drug delivery systems and as a sealant for repairing leaking farm ponds.
Additionally, Sodium Tripolyphosphate acts as a strong chelating agent for calcium and magnesium ions and is extensively utilized in ceramics, leather tanning, flame retardant formulations, paper pulping and coating, textile processing, mineral flotation, anticorrosion pigments, and rubber manufacturing.
