Mineral oil CAS#8042-47-5
High Purity and Clean Appearance – Industrial-grade purity of ≥99% with a colorless, transparent and almost odorless profile ensures suitability for sensitive industrial and cosmetic-related applications.
Wide Thermal Operating Range – Low melting point (-15 °C) and high boiling range (300–500 °C) provide excellent performance stability across a broad temperature range.
Low Volatility and Safe Handling – Extremely low vapor pressure at 25 °C (0.0001 hPa) minimizes evaporation and inhalation risk, improving workplace safety and storage stability.
Excellent Chemical Stability and Compatibility – Insoluble in water and stable under normal conditions, with good solubility in common organic solvents, making it reliable for lubrication, formulation, and processing uses.
Product Description of Mineral Oil (CAS No. 8042-47-5)
Mineral Oil, also known as white oil, is a high-purity industrial liquid with a minimum content of 99%. It appears as a colorless, transparent fluid with almost no odor and offers excellent chemical stability. The product has a melting point of approximately −15 °C and a broad boiling range of 300–500 °C, ensuring reliable performance over a wide temperature range.
At 25 °C, it exhibits an extremely low vapor pressure of 0.0001 hPa and a relative density of 0.85 at 20 °C. Mineral Oil is insoluble in water, readily soluble in ether and chloroform, and only slightly soluble in ethanol. Under normal conditions it remains stable, but should be kept away from strong oxidizing agents to avoid incompatibility.

Product Application of Mineral Oil (CAS No. 8042-47-5)
Mineral Oil is widely used as a protective overlay to cover microdrops of culture media in petri dish experiments. In the personal care industry, it serves as an important ingredient in baby lotions, cold creams, ointments, and a wide range of cosmetic formulations.
In the electrical and mechanical fields, Mineral Oil functions as a thermal transfer fluid in electronic components and as a non-conductive cooling medium. It is commonly applied as transformer oil, an anti-rust coating for cutting blades, and an insulating fluid in high-voltage switchgear.
Additionally, Mineral Oil is used for the safe storage of highly reactive metals such as lithium and sodium, and in X-ray crystallography as a suspension medium for crystal samples.
