N-Methyl-D-glucamine is commonly used together with iodinated organic compounds in contrast media, such as diatrizoate meglumine and iodipamide meglumine. It is also applied in ion-exchange resins for the selective chelation of boron ions.
In addition, it serves as an excipient in pharmaceutical formulations, as well as in cosmetics and X-ray contrast media. It is further utilized in the synthesis of surfactants, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.
