Product Application of Poly(methylhydrosiloxane) CAS#63148-57-2
Polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) is an easy-to-handle, cost-effective, low-toxicity, and mild reducing agent. It is widely recognized as an alternative to more expensive or hazardous silanes and siloxanes, and serves as a stoichiometric reducing agent in catalytic organotin-mediated reactions.
PMHS can be cross-linked with metal catalysts at low temperatures to form waterproof membranes. It is widely used as a waterproofing agent for textiles, glass, ceramics, paper, leather, metals, cement, and marble, with particularly extensive applications in textile waterproofing. It also functions as an insulating and cross-linking agent in the paper industry.
In organic synthesis, PMHS is used for the reduction of esters to alcohols in the presence of titanocene dichloride with either n-BuLi or EtMgBr as catalysts. It is also considered a safer alternative to triethoxysilane for the reduction of phosphine oxides to phosphines when catalyzed by Ti(O-i-Pr)₄. In addition, PMHS is widely employed in environmentally friendly amine synthesis through reductive amination as an alternative to borohydride-based reducing agents.
