Polyacrylonitrile (CAS#25014-41-9) is used in the colorimetric determination of elements such as phosphorus, magnesium, niobium, copper, silicon, and arsenic. It is applied in polarographic and volumetric determination of iridium, and serves as a reducing agent for heteropolyacids, copper, and gold. Additional applications include testing for phosphate, tungstate, nitrate, nitrite, selenium, and tellurium, as well as use as a developer, antioxidant, desulfurizer in the fertilizer industry, and a urea synergist.
