1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIM][N(Tf)₂]) is a typical room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) widely used as a solvent in organic synthesis and the chemical industry. It is effective for dissolving CO₂ and can also serve as a medium for dissolving electroactive oxygen, enabling studies on oxygen electroreduction via cyclic voltammetry at a gold microdisk electrode.

In addition, this compound has been utilized as a solvent in analytical methods, such as ammonia determination through the electro-oxidation of hydroquinone. It also plays a role in materials synthesis, for example in the microwave-assisted preparation of ZnO nanoparticles with a wurtzite structure via decomposition of zinc acetate dihydrate.
